Web Design Tools

Responsive web outlining is the excellent way to deal with empower the clients to feel and experience the appeal of high determination planning, even in their pocket applications like PDAs and tablet PCs. Think back two or three years and you can judge the progressions that occurred in the wings of web outlining. The architects will undoubtedly make renditions good for high determination desktops, as well as appropriate for low screens with any determination. Originators are thankful to responsive web outline instruments and administrations that are dependably there to make with a distinction and fulfill the customers in genuine sense.

There are sure responsive web plan instruments with various usefulness that can recognize the medium where the website is being screened and to give the clients best profitability while making it consummately intelligible and help the clients to explore through the webpage. The reason to utilize the distinctive strategies is to make the outlines with the capacity to suite any up and coming greetings tech devices, regardless of how cutting-edge they are.

When it comes to talk about responsive web designing tools, the matter that creates the difference between the traditional designing and this responsive web designing is techniques used to create responsive designs. Unlike fixed widths style, responsive designers use flexible grids that easily match with any screen resolution. So it is time to wipe out the fixed width formula and opt for flexible grids that enable the elements to get rearranged and resized along according to the screen resolution. Liquid lay outs are another available option, but they are not as effective as flexible grids.

Another important concept related to responsive web designing is the screen resolution factor. It is already said that the purpose of this designing is to match with any screen resolution, but often it seems important to cover every possible resolutions, that is not easy to serve, using flexible grids only.  The most admired resolution is 1024x 768, as the ipad is using the same resolution. At the same time, most of the monitors are also being used under the same resolution. Therefore as a designer you should modify the flexible grid in a way that can easily serve the purpose of maximum visitors. Also, now you can test your website using the Responsive Design Tool.

About Design vs Content

Design or Content? – the everlasting inquiry that surfaces each time we examine about also imperative for a site to survive, be seen and have clients that would return. I would say these two walk as an inseparable unit, outline being the body and substance being the spirit of a site.

It resembles when meeting individuals – you analyze what they look like first and after that you become acquainted with what they think. Be that as it may, of course, every lead has a special case and everything relies on upon the person.

A few people would simply peruse sites day by day in hunt down a measurements of motivation, searching for good plan, thinking less about the substance; while others are intrigued to peruse quality data not thinking about the look of the site. There are other individuals that don’t recognize what they are searching for and after that end up on a delightfully composed site that has cool data on it, thus it is most presumably this site will get bookmarked and shared on interpersonal organizations. Everything relies on upon needs, however site proprietors will need to manage these forthcoming classes, and ensure they draw in individuals to their site with great outline and hold them returning due to the quality substance they have. It may sound hard, yet not incomprehensible.

# What comes first: content or design?

But before getting to the importance of content or design, we should start with asking the question: What comes first? This is essential, because for example website owners that don’t have any idea about  designing a website or writing content for it, would have to hire professionals who would do that for them. Now, this is tricky because some web designers won’t start their work until they know what the idea of the website is and see some content, because they might need more information than just general information. Content writers might not get started once they see a design mockup so that they would know what to write about.

One thing to be done is hiring a content strategist that has an experience on this subject already. This guy will help you manage everything regarding content, from“how to say it” to “how to manage” the content you have successfully. This will help you a lot if you are not sure how to write for the web as it takes some practice to succeed in that. I personally think that content comes in first and that’s what you should start with. Starting up with some general content can get you a general insight on how it will interact with the visual part of a website and these two are strongly interlinked. This idea is then presented to the design team and discussed thoroughly leading the way to the designing process.

# Why Content?

Content is what makes people come back to your website once they find the information they are looking for. The aim of websites is to attract Internet users in case you are selling something or showcasing something, but based on website popularity keeping the users on your website as much as possible and keeping them interested to come back is what makes it a good website.

Content is what makes a website successfully appear on the first pages of search engines, and that is what interests most of the website owners. Being first on the pages of search engines, means people will find you faster and you would be able to attract more visitors to your website. Content is what makes a website live. The life of good content is much longer than that of a good design, given the fact that this content is high quality and users find out something new and interesting while consuming it. By updating your content and other SEO tricks, you can be sure to appear on the first page of Google for instance and in the end that’s what makes a commercial website worth it and pay back.

# Why design?

As I have mentioned in this article, design is what makes your website attractive. The chance that people will take a look at your cool content is smaller if the design of your website is uncool. A good design fetches traffic, but it won’t assure the fact that people will come back, unless they are interested what’s new on the website. Hence design has less chances to be renewed as much as content is.

A good design is what makes people less confused about finding the right content and finding it the easier way possible. People get “hooked” by great design, and the important thing is to keep the hook there through content so that your website gets the right attention. Avoiding heavy graphics will make your design look stylish and minimalist and remember – less is more! Better adding more quality information than creating a complicated design.

In the end, it’s up to you to decide who wins the battle in the Design vs Content battle. Both of them are quite important and have their own advantages and as I said go hand in hand in making your website unique and visited.

Newbie Designers Tips

You first begin with acing Photoshop. You search for instructional exercises each day and study them completely. You begin making things all alone. You won’t not succeed the first run through and the second time, yet you do on the third time and after that you think: Wow! I’m the coolest fashioner ever! However this is not it – this is only the start of the long trip in front of you. Despite everything you need to learn such a variety of things before expressing that you are a fashioner and profit out of this. Meeting troubles, beating distinctive issues and acing loads of things identified with plan and not just will make you be an effective expert architect.

This article is dedicated to all “young” designers that are new to this subject and would hopefully find these tips helpful. These 33 tips will help future designers avoid some common mistakes that they can make on their way to becoming pro’s in web design and be on the right path instead.

Practice makes perfect

This is a universal truth that should be taken as granted in any profession you choose. In order for you to deal with your future projects you will have to master different softwares like Photoshop for instance.  There are tons of tutorials on the Internet and many other online lessons that you can see and apply them in practice. The good part about tutorials is their composition – they are often explained step by step – which will make your learning process much easier. You can get them absolutely for free if you make a research and enjoy the watching and learning process. Start with the easiest tutorials – the ones that explain the basics and then move on to more complicated stuff.

Master Photoshop

Photoshop is definitely a source of enhancing creativity and build something nice and original. It all depends on your imagination. Start with reading books about Photoshop and then you will see how much easier it will get for you to master it.

Patience is the secret

Be sure to remember that every time you start something new, something might go wrong or not the way you expected it to be but this shouldn’t stop you. Remember that in design quantity will turn to quality once you put your heart in it. In half a year you will be able to do everything faster and in a year you can already become a professional. All you have to do is be patient and don’t get down if something goes wrong – start again and success will definitely come back to you.

Don’t let greed get to you

One mistake that almost all beginner designers make is – if they see some cool brushes online they immediately download them. This way your computer will soon have no remaining memory because of the huge amount of useless brushes and plug-ins. The thing is that some of the brushes and plug-ins that you so wanted to download are already incorporated in Photoshop and you just don’t know about it so don’t rush – download only what you really need.

Systemize and classify

Once you decide to download some brushes or cliparts, be sure to classify them into separate folders so that you can find them easily, otherwise you will have a messy desktop that will just get you more confused. Once you keep everything in order you won’t have to lose hours in order to find what you are looking for.

Be a follower

Try to look at the works of as many designs as you can. This will help you get inspired and you will definitely learn a lot from other experienced designers that have already been in the same spot where you are now. If you have seen a website that you liked, try to follow the same techniques – in the end ideas will come up and you will make a totally different maybe even better website.

Follow but don’t copy

One thing you should definitely remember is not to break any copyright rules. As I have mentioned before you can get inspired and maybe use some general elements that you can find in any web design, but other elements should totally belong to you and you cannot just copy them from other websites.

Analyze

If you found a website to get inspired from try to analyze how it was made – start with analyzing the background, what fonts were used, what brushes or gradients have been used in order to create a certain effect. Try to figure out the order in what everything was done for the website.

Look at the world through the eyes of a designer

Try to visualize everything you see and analyze it from a designer’s point of view. This goes for anything – starting with TV shows to billboards to magazines and ads. You can really find something really useful by just watching some ads on TV because some of them are really good and can fill you with a dose of inspiration.

Get a diary

And I don’t mean the kind of diary that you use for writing how your day was and your disappointments. I mean the kind of diary that you will keep for ideas and impressions. It is almost impossible to remember everything that seems to be interesting for you, so you can definitely put down your ideas in a notebook of your own. Once you get to design a website just open the notebook and you will be amazed by the large number of ideas you will get.

Don’t blame your motivation

One of the most common issues for new designers is the thought that they have an inspirational crisis; hence they are not motivated to go on with their work and become depressed at some point – thinking if the path they chose was the right one. It will all come with experience – your inspiration will definitely get stronger once you start working and putting your soul into what you do.

If you want to be a designer, blend with designers

A beginner designer should always communicate with other designers if there is a chance. Never hesitate to ask your fellow designer for tips, if they are professionals they won’t avoid you. Also try to visit different forums where you can find other designers from different parts of the world and talk to them – you will be love the flow of information you might get.

Be trendy

In order to be successful you will have to get acquainted with the latest trends in web design, otherwise you will lose the moment where Web 2.0 is already a thing of the past – and you wouldn’t want that.

Don’t be afraid of novelties

If you have seen something new that other web designer uses, don’t hesitate to use it as well – just be careful to check it out first and get to know more information as it might totally not go well with the rest of your design.

Make it usable

Once you know how to use Photoshop and start making different stuff, don’t hesitate to make it useful for your future website, otherwise your creativity might remain locked down somewhere in a folder on your computer.

Respect copyrights

If you want to be professional, you should definitely think about your image. You don’t want to spot it with something stupid like not respecting the copyrights of the photos you use. The safest way is to buy them from stock photography websites and if you don’t want to do that,  just make sure to credit the authors or use photos in a way so that you will not violate any copyrights. If you are not sure about the license of a photo, you should better avoid using it.

Get your freebies and use them

There is plenty of free stuff you can download from the Internet. There are different customized plug-ins and brushes for Photoshop. Just make sure to choose wisely and go for it.

Master the theory

If you want to get a good practice, you will first have to learn the theory. There are several basic rules for design in general that you should know in order to go on and make good websites. Plus, once you get a project,  you will have to talk to the client and give him different tips for a better result – thus you will have to bring serious arguments.

Be your own client first

One of the most common mistakes a young designer makes is the lack of a portfolio; hence when a client is asking for a portfolio in order to see your works you cannot show anything. Break this cycle and be your own client at first. Think of a project you would like to implement and then make the website for it. This way you will have a portfolio to show off and some experience as well.

Don’t hurry the timing of your projects

Once you talk to the client, don’t try to shorten the period of the finished project. You will have to sum up the days you will need for the project wisely and tell the real numbers. Add one or two days in advance, in case something goes wrong. If you manage to end the project before the deadline than this will be a really pleasant surprise for the client, otherwise I am not sure he will be really happy

Design all the time

Try to take care of your passion daily. Don’t skip any days in between designing – because as I said – practice makes perfect. If you don’t have any projects to work on, then do something on your own, learn some new Photoshop effects – this will definitely be helpful for your future projects.

Don’t be afraid of critique

I guess this is the hardest thing to overcome when you are a struggling designer. Once you get a bad comment on your work you don’t really have the motivation to go on. Once a client doesn’t like your work, it either means he would like to get it for a cheaper price or he actually didn’t like it. Designing has its ups and downs but this shouldn’t bring you down. The important thing is avoid being lead by your emotions; otherwise you will lose your client and your work. Don’t be rude but try to have a constructive discussion with the client and you will definitely come to an agreement.

Don’t use the default settings

Try to create your own effects for your design. You can use the default settings but only for bigger objects, while for example you can use a creative effect on the typography that you use in your design. Also pay attention to the elements you use in your design – these will definitely have to be unique and default settings should be avoided.

Don’t overestimate your skills

Once you take on a project, you have to measure your skills and use simpler but good looking design, without using elements that you have never even heard about or tried them on your own. Once you handle the simple things, you will definitely be able to pass on to more complicated design; hence you could state you are becoming more professional.

Enjoy your work

When you start the design of a website try to concentrate only on the result of your work. Create and be creative, use your imagination. Don’t let thoughts like – “what a great designer I am”! or “how much money will I get?” and “what will I do with them?!”. Enjoy your work, after all this is what you chose so it has to bring you joy.

Don’t think about numbers

When you start designing, you will have to skip thoughts like: how many projects will I be able to make in a week, how about a month? This will just affect your performance and at some point you might get disappointed because you miscalculated something. You will reach the time when you will simply have no time to think about numbers because of the big number of projects you will have as a professional designer.

Don’t underestimate the details

Details definitely give the design a special look. Pay attention to details, they are really important in a composition and will make your work unique. Think about details on your typography, your background, the logo, or menu buttons and you will see how amazing your design will look instead of the boring simple design.

Make your own cliparts

You can sometimes lose tons of time searching for the perfect details for your design. This is not the saddest thing, because you can lose time but in the end find nothing good for your design. Instead of that – design what you want on your own. Remember that you’ve mastered Photoshop and you can do almost anything you want there.

Don’t make fun of beginner designers

One feature that can be seen in beginner designers is the way they make fun of their fellows. They usually make it on forums and they are really mean about this thing. Try to be tolerant towards new designers, because you might not be too far away from them. Keep cool and just learn to be a good designer.

Critique your work instead

Try to avoid comparing your work to some boring and ugly designs – this will make no good for you or your experience. Dream bigger – compare your work to better designs and see what you can do to make your design better. This way, you will have a constructive critique towards yourself.

Be more professional about your work

When you sketch the design of the website you are going to make, don’t just make a sketch that only you could understand. The client might not get what you mean. The sketch is really important in order to show a preview for your website. Obviously you shouldn’t go for the details, but a good sketch is a must.

Believe in yourself

Believe that everything will end up to be OK and don’t lose faith in yourself and your powers. This is very important actually and will help you get the right motivation.

Don’t listen to anyone no matter what

Don’t follow people’s advice blindly. Try to experiment and find what works best for you; it differs from person to person. What turns out to be good for someone might be totally wrong for you, even if the person has the best intentions while giving you a piece of advice.

Why White Space are Good in Web Design?

white-spaceWith regards to web outlining, white space is alluded to the space between various plan components. The region between content, sections, pictures, connections and footers and so on are alluded as white space. White space is not really “white” it is basically a clear space.

Utilization of white space helps in filtering distinctive segments of sites and site pages. While planning site layout architects are regularly found to underrate the significance of white space. It decreases the measure of content that a guest is required to check at one go. Visual partition of various planning components can be adequately done by utilizing white space. A site format utilizing white space adequately seems spotless, uncluttered and new. Give us a chance to investigate a few parts of white space (additionally alluded as negative space) that are important to web planning.

# Focus

While designing a web site template white space is used by designers for organizing text, graphics creating contrast, highlighting and guiding readers’ eyes from one topic to another. This increases the scope of scanning and readability. Positive space – the space where images and text are positioned, can be highlighted appropriately with negative space. White space is also used to create a sophisticated elegance for highly valued brands. White space is associated with something that is expensive and high quality.

# Types of white space

There are two types of white spaces in web designing. Active white space is the space intentionally left out for a better structure and layout. It is also used for emphasizing the content. Empty space around the page or blank areas within the content are left blank as by product of layout process during web site designing. This area is called passive white space.

— Balancing the layout

White space is used for creating a balanced layout. Without ample white space viewers can’t rest their eyes. A web site template should try to maintain a balance of open space and content. Online marketing agencies have found out that too much white space in wrong areas like just above footer may misguide the users. They may leave the page thinking it has ended. People expect less white space in web content than in print medium.

— Headings

Headings are great ways for separating content into manageable portions. There are different types of headings H1, H2, H3 etc. that highlight different sections of content. The white space used below and above a heading is very useful for separating relevant portions of content.

— Line spacing

A web site template is more readable and easy to scan when there is enough space between lines. If lines are pushed too close, scanning becomes difficult. When the lines are too far apart the words are virtually disconnected from each other and the visitors feel confused. Optimum line spacing can be achieved with the help of CSS.

Space between the lines is also referred as – leading. This is usually set at 120-150% of the point size of type or font. As such, for type of 10pts a leading of 12-15pt is considered optimum. Leading that is smaller than this may not make the copy more legible or scannable. Larger leading may lead the eyes of visitors to wonder around the content and coherency is lost.

— Margins

This is the space around a particular element while designing a web site template. It can be controlled by using CSS margins. Try to maintain a consistent margin throughout the layout. With a consistent spacing, a web site template looks more organized and professional. Think of vertical and horizontal separation while planning about the margin.

Too large margin creates a feel of disconnection. While designing a web site template you should be careful about the pixels that can fit on the screen. It is not desirable to waste too much real estate of screen on margin.

While designing web site template you need to ensure that text is not pressed up against images, sidebars, navigation bars, headers. Use necessary margins to give your readers a breathing space. A site is designed to fit within the common screen resolution800×600 pixels. This has been expanded to 1024×768 over time.

Designing web site template with white or negative space has gained attention in recent time. Its presence or use is not defined by the amount but by the way it is distributed on a website. Some users see too much wide space as an indication that the site is void of sufficient content.

White space is increasingly gaining desired importance in designing web site templates. It is now treated as an integral part of designing rather than just as a background. Several template designers are using it for highlighting content, making web pages readable and balancing the layout of a website. Conventions and customs are being replaced with innovations and creativity. While balanced use of negative space helps in achieving desired results, getting overboard may ruin its benefits.
